Experimental study examines how temperature influences dielectric strength in high-voltage insulation systems, indicating critical operational limits.
The effect of temperature on the dielectric strength of cast epoxy insulation is considered in relation to the conditions of its operation in high-voltage equipment. The physical picture of the mechanism of temperature influence on the dielectric strength of polymers is described. The results of experimental studies of the dependence of the dielectric strength of epoxy insulation samples with poured metal reinforcement, which forms a weakly inhomogeneous electric field under the influence of high voltage, are presented. It is shown how the dielectric strength of such samples changes when the insulation structure changes due to the appearance of cracks and delaminations that cause partial discharges.
