Version 1.0.1 reports enhanced coupling capabilities in FEniCSx for user convenience and flexibility.
FEniCSx is an open-source software for solving partial differential equations using the finite element method. It succeeded FEniCS in 2021, and its developers encourage transitioning to FEniCSx. FEniCS-preCICE is an adapter for the open-source coupling library preCICE designed for coupling existing codes based on FEniCS. An adapter is a software layer between the software being coupled and preCICE, thereby simplifying the workload for coupling. To enable former FEniCS users who wish to continue coupling their problems using preCICE with FEniCSx, we provide a new version of the FEniCS-preCICE adapter: the FEniCSx-preCICE adapter. The first release of the FEniCSx-preCICE adapter supports the latest versions of FEniCSx and preCICE with enhanced functionality: coupling multiple data on multiple meshes, just-in-time mapping, coupling of vector-valued data, and 3D coupling. These features enable a wider range of use cases and greater flexibility than the FEniCS-preCICE adapter while retaining the robust user interface.
