Synthesis and thermal analysis of β-diketone metal complexes, revealing increased thermal diffusivity.
The synthesis of the β-diketone ligand and its complexes with Fe(III), Ni(II), and Zn(II) are explained. These samples’ thermogravimetric tests reveal that the ligand has a higher initial decomposition temperature, making it more stable than the metal complexes. To determine the impact of metal coordination on the thermal characteristics of the β-diketone ligands, the thermal diffusivity of these four samples is measured at room temperature using a photoacoustic approach. The β-diketone ligand metal complexes have higher thermal diffusivity than the parent ligand, according to experimental results. The rise may be explained by the electronic contribution of metals to the thermal property if we take into account their free electron density. Therefore, as the free electron density of the coordinated metal ion increases in metal complexes, thermal diffusivity also increases.
