Full-scale experiments clarify static friction characteristics of spherical sliding bearings, suggesting implications for wind-resistant design.
This paper reports the results of full-scale experiments conducted to clarify the static friction characteristics of a Spherical Sliding Bearing (SSB). In recent years, the number of seismic-isolated buildings where the wind-induced responses cannot be ignored has been increasing. In the case of SSB, static friction characteristics, particularly the upper limit of static friction force, are important for wind-resistant design. However, few experiments or research have focused on these characteristics. The experiment was carried out by applying a horizontal load at a constant rate to the SSB while it remained at rest, to reproduce the effect of wind-induced loading conditions.
