Cohort study finds anemia affects survival and complications in myelofibrosis, suggesting early intervention is critical.
Myelofibrosis is a chronic myeloproliferative neoplasm characterized by progressive bone marrow fibrosis, splenomegaly, and ineffective erythropoiesis [ 1 ]. Patients with myelofibrosis are at increased risks of complications including anemia, leukemic transformation, cardiovascular events, and infections [ 1 , 2 ]. Among these, anemia is particularly common and is strongly associated with shortened overall survival (OS) [ 1 , 3 ].
