ABSTRACT The transition to adulthood for young people leaving care is often a vulnerable and isolated period, without the support of stable and secure relationships afforded to many of their peers living in parental homes. Supported lodgings is an increasingly popular form of transitional care in England, which aims to accommodate young people with a host individual or family who provide them with both space to develop independence and the security of supportive relationships. This research explores the narratives of 14 young people with lived experience of supported lodgings, gathered as part of the Voices of Supported Lodgings project, to understand the key features of their experiences. Highlighting the centrality of secure base relationships in promoting self‐confidence, agency and skills, the authors present evidence to indicate that supported lodgings can be a positive placement option to support care‐experienced young people in the transition to adulthood.
