Evaluates a solvent-free approach to sulfur-phenolate exchanges, suggesting eco-friendly benefits.
In the evaluation of the sustainability of efficient reactions like click reactions, the use of solvents is often overlooked. This work introduces a solvent-free, fast, and eco-friendly mechanochemical approach to the sulfur(VI)-phenolate exchange reaction (SuPhenEx), demonstrating its efficiency through the reactions of 4-nitrophenyl sulfonate esters with a range of phenols, saturated alcohols, primary and secondary amines, and anilines in high yields. Furthermore, several gram-scale syntheses highlight its potential for broader applications in green chemistry.
