Examines how technology and generic skills enhance accounting education for global competitiveness.
Many employers and professional accounting bodies have often demanded adequate IT skills, paying less attention to generic skills. Therefore, this study examines the roles of technology and generic skills in enhancing accounting education for global competitiveness. Content analysis was used to analyze the characteristics of the study variables. This study reviewed the development of accounting education research globally from 2000 to 2024, using 90 published accounting education articles. However, only 47 of the 90 published journal articles that contained the keywords were included in this study. The study concluded that to survive in an increasingly competitive international market, the accounting profession will have to bear the substantial changes that must begin with accounting education through technology and generic skills. Based on the literature searched and analyzed, it is recommended that authorities concerned for higher institutions offering accounting courses have a duty to create an enabling environment for students’ acquisition of knowledge of both accounting technology and generic skills to enhance innovation of accounting education for global competitiveness.
