Demonstrates efficient hydrosilylation in diverse substrates, suggesting a new catalyst-free approach.
A photosensitizer-free, visible-light-driven hydrosilylation is reported. Mixing a nonaromatic substrate, tris(trimethylsilyl)silane, and Cs 2 CO 3 generates a visible-light-absorbing species, which upon 456 nm irradiation produces silicon-centered radicals without an exogenous photocatalyst. These radicals enable hydrosilylation of diverse alkenes and alkynes, and also serve as halogen-atom transfer reagents for dehalogenation. This strategy eliminates the need for external initiators, photocatalysts, or HAT mediators.
