Short communication reviews the nomenclatural history of Creobroter, correcting misinterpretations of its variants.
The nomenclatural history of Creobroter Audinet-Serville, 1839 is reviewed. Examination of the original literature demonstrates that Creoboter Burmeister, 1840, Creobotra Saussure, 1869, and Creobrotra Saussure, 1898 are incorrect subsequent spellings of Creobroter rather than available generic names or taxonomic synonyms. Their continued treatment as synonyms in modern catalogues represents the persistence of a historical bibliographic artifact.
