Short communication reviews the nomenclatural history of Creobroter brunneri, indicating replacement name implications in taxonomy.
The nomenclatural history of Creobroter brunneri Kirby, 1904 is reviewed. Examination of the original literature demonstrates that Brunner von Wattenwyl (1898) merely transferred De Haan’s sumatrana to Creobroter Audinet-Serville, 1839, creating no nomenclatural conflict requiring replacement. Kirby’s unnecessary replacement name illustrates the distinction between taxonomic concepts and available zoological names in pre-Code nomenclature.
