Qualitative insights reveal how job type and culture impact menopause symptoms in women from diverse roles.
This study explores how workplace environments shape menopausal experiences in policing (male-dominated) and healthcare (female-dominated). Through interviews with 18 Dutch women in frontline and desk-based roles, thematic analysis reveals that police officers face greater stigma due to a “macho” culture, and healthcare workers navigate taboo through self-sacrifice. Frontline roles intensify challenges via physical demands, rigid schedules, and limited flexibility. Desk-based workers benefit from more autonomy. Findings highlight how organizational culture and job type intersect to influence symptom management, with male-dominated and frontline settings exacerbating vulnerability.
