Abstract An enterprise resource planning (ERP) system is vital for managing business operations in today’s business world. However, the mere implementation does not ensure that this system is used effectively. Therefore, monitoring the usage of the ERP system is essential for fully realising its potential. This study examines the key factors driving the actual usage of ERP systems through a quantitative analysis based on empirical research. Relevant respondents from Western Balkan countries with ERP system experience were selected to ensure the results’ high reliability and relevance. Following the data collection process, which combined LinkedIn-based recruitment with a snowball sampling approach, 139 valid and fully completed questionnaires were retained. An integrated methodological approach was employed, combining partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM), artificial neural networks (ANNs), and importance-performance map analysis (IPMA). The results show that Work Compatibility is the most important variable influencing ERP usage, followed by external factors and Perceived Usefulness. Study findings offer valuable insights by improving theoretical understanding and highlighting practical implications, indicating that managers should actively address these influential factors for successful ERP implementation and optimal utilisation of ERP systems.
