Key result
The abstract outlines a study to collect characteristics of patients with mitral valve prolapse who survived sudden cardiac death, but provides no quantitative results.
Observational
This study aims to identify a common clinical and laboratory phenotype among patients with mitral valve prolapse who experience sudden cardiac death.
Data lacking to guide sudden cardiac death risk assessment in mitral valve prolapse; leaves open quantitative characterization of survivors.
mitral valve insufficiency mitral valve prolapse risk factors M itral valve prolapse (MVP) is a prevalent valvular condition with heterogeneous outcomes. Excess mortality is associated with moderate-tosevere mitral regurgitation (MR) and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction. 2 Whereas MVP is considered benign in patients without such risk factors, 1,2 some reports have described ventricular arrhythmias and sudden death (SD) in apparently uncomplicated MVP. Moreover, MVP was identified in 42% of patients who experienced idiopathic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. he aim of this study was to collect exhaustive clinical and laboratory characteristics of patients with MVP who survived SD without any other obvious explanation.
