In this study, the focus is on some aspects of Ethics as a subject taught in Hungarian primary schools. The relevant regulatory force NCC 2020 (National Core Curriculum), and the framework curriculum of the subject take a stand along a number of values. In the former, there are many defined educational goals, aimed and targeted abilities after finishing the eight-year-long course: some of them are close to psychology and the personality (e.g. self-reflection, self-regulation, resilience), some are rather related to interpersonal skills (active family and community participation, or differences among generations), and some are connected to cognitive aspects (e.g. knowledge of national and European culture, or acquaintance with legal systems, social responsibility and commitment to a sustainable future, formation of personal opinion, and values of good and bad). In accordance with the children's age, achievement of the aimed personality, interpersonal, cognitive, and moral development can be accomplished in Ethics lessons, especially if the goal is to approach the questions in a problem-centred, namely, ethical/philosophical way. I believe the teachers’ effectiveness lies in their approach towards these aims, therefore, I am going to highlight two coursebooks and their methods.
