This paper reviews recent research involving the use of mnemonic techniques with exceptional students. All results to date indicate that students instructed in these techniques consistently and significantly outperform students who are given alternative modes of study—including direct instruction—on a variety of school-learning tasks. Both theoretical and applied research issues are considered throughout the paper.
