Technical discussion paper proposes requirements for agrivoltaics in Egypt, highlighting water management needs.
The first two papers in this series established why Egypt needs a national agrivoltaics standard and what governance requirements that standard should embed. This paper addresses the layer that governance alone cannot resolve: the technical parameters that distinguish genuine agrivoltaics from simple co-location of solar panels on agricultural land. Drawing on Germany's DIN SPEC 91434, the most detailed technical pre-standard for agrivoltaics currently in force anywhere, this paper proposes a minimum set of technical requirements adapted to the Egyptian context, with particular attention to water management, a dimension the German model does not need to address at the same intensity but that is central to Egypt's own agricultural reality. The paper is intended as a technical discussion paper supporting future national standardization efforts rather than a draft standard itself. This paper represents Paper 3 of a five-part standardization series developed under the Egyptian Agrivoltaics Initiative (EAI).
