Reported approach synthesizes geminal bisperoxides from aldehydes, indicating versatile applications for complex compounds.
-enabled peroxidation of aldehydes for the selective synthesis of geminal bisperoxides is reported. A range of geminal bisperoxides was obtained in high yields (up to >99%) from simple precursors. The synthetic utility was demonstrated through their diverse transformations into azidoperoxides, cyanoperoxides, peroxyesters, esters, and carboxylic acids. Mechanistic studies support the involvement of a radical pathway.
