Female mosquitoes seek man to obtain blood needed for egg maturation. In its search for a blood meal, the female mosquito is guided by several cues, most important being heat, moisture, carbon dioxide, and odor. Sight also plays an important role, especially with regard to a moving target. Repellents interfere with the mosquito's quest in a complex fashion.
