Pilot study analyzes hemostatic differences in cardiac surgery using on-pump versus off-pump methods, finding no significant changes.
Objective. To analyze differences in hemostatic system among cardiac surgery patients who underwent on-pump and off-pump procedures. Material and methods. A pilot study was conducted. Parameters of intrinsic and extrinsic coagulation pathways were assessed using thromboelastometry (ROTEM) before and after surgery. Twenty-six patients were divided into two groups: group 1 — surgery with CPB; group 2 — surgery without CPB. Results. There were no significant between-group differences in ROTEM parameters measured by INTEM and EXTEM assays. Likewise, no significant within-group differences in INTEM or EXTEM values were detected when comparing preoperative and postoperative measurements. Conclusion. After normothermic CPB for less than 2 hours, we found no differences in hemostatic system between cardiac surgery patients who underwent on-pump and off-pump procedures.
