Case study assesses climate resilience in coffee farming, highlighting practices that enhance sustainability.
This study assesses socioecological resilience to climate variability and change on four Coffea arabica farms in Trujillo, Valle del Cauca (Colombia). Seventeen indicators were developed at the landscape, agroecosystem, and socioeconomic categories. These were evaluated through field observations and interviews. The results show that agroecological practices such as shade-grown coffee, diversification, composting, water harvesting, and animal integration contribute to strengthening the resilience of agroecosystems. In particular, the Buenos Aires farm implemented an innovaftive system in which organic waste from animal and coffee production is used to generate biogas and biofertilizers.
