This analysis examines the implications of Impact Factor in research journals, highlighting its influence on academic performance.
Of the many journal metrics available to consider in weighing up the performance of a research journal, probably the best known is the Impact Factor (IF). The IF provides a mean average of the citations accrued in one year by all the papers of a particular journal published in the previous two years, based on citation data from Web of Science. The release of a journal’s first IF will be of interest to the research community, and ours was published in June of this year.
