Demonstrated a compact optical switch achieving nonblocking routing and various logic operations in optical computing and communication.
Optical switch is well accepted for optical computation and signal process, requiring reconfigurable, flexible, and fast routing. In the paper, we demonstrated a compact, power‐efficient, and fast optical switch on silicon platform with microring resonators. The switch array based on the crossbar architecture not only achieves strictly nonblocking routing but also realizes various logical functions with AND, XNOR, XOR, and half‐adder logic operation. For switch operation, at working wavelength, on‐chip average loss is 3.11 dB with the crosstalk lower than −11.69 dB with maximum power consumption is 13.311 mW. The extinction ratio (ER) between output logic “0” and “1” predominantly reaches approximately 15 dB, with a minimum ER of 10.87 dB. The rise and fall times for switch are 7.468 and 6.562 ns, respectively. The low loss, compact footprint, and fast reconfiguration make it promising in areas such as optical communication networks and photonic computing.
