Elevated diastolic calcium may drive SR loading and larger transients in rat myocytes; hypothesis-generating for inotropy, leaves open human translation.
The study demonstrates that in rat ventricular myocytes, increased diastolic intracellular calcium leads to increased sarcoplasmic reticulum calcium content and larger calcium transients during inotropic interventions.
Frampton et al. (1991) studied this question.
