The room-temperature Faraday rotation of germanium has been measured in magnetic fields ranging from 0 to 120 kG for a range of photon energies above and below the band-gap energy at k=0. Evidence for the possible influence of exciton transitions is found in both the weak- and strong-field cases. Saturation of the rotation in large fields is observed at photon energies near the zero-field direct band-gap energy. Certain effects of crystal strain are also observed.
