The application of a total‐body γ‐monitor using high‐pressure ionisation chambers to the measurement of radiation from patients is described. Patients with internally deposited thorium have been studied. The interpretation of the measurements in relation to the amount of thorium present, the age of the deposits, the accumulation of daughter products and the distribution of the thorium in the body is discussed.
