Why the study?
Does hyperinsulinemia prevent the adverse effects of hyperglycemia on vascular inflammatory biomarkers and endothelial function in overweight/obese nondiabetic humans?
Population
22 overweight/obese nondiabetic individuals (13 females, 9 males), mean BMI 30.1 ± 4.1 kg/m²
Comparison
4-hour glucose clamps with hyperinsulinemia vs 4-hour glucose clamps with euinsulinemia
Design
RCT, randomized, single-blind
Follow-up
4 hours

Hyperinsulinemia may blunt acute hyperglycemic endothelial impairment in obesity; leaves open relevance to chronic vascular risk.
Does hyperinsulinemia prevent the adverse effects of hyperglycemia on vascular inflammatory biomarkers and endothelial function in overweight/obese nondiabetic humans?
In overweight and obese nondiabetic individuals, moderate hyperglycemia acutely impairs endothelial function and increases proinflammatory markers, but these effects are prevented by concomitant hyperinsulinemia.
