The preparation of reflecting film-free surfaces is briefly reviewed. An apparatus is described in which the optical constants of bulk alloys, in ultra-high vacuum, may be measured polarimetrically over a spectral range of 0.2-2.7 μm and a temperature range of 77-950°K.
