This article describes the impact of the nursing home clinical on attitudes of 70 second year nursing students. A 25 item scale was developed to measure attitudes toward the elderly as persons and toward working with elderly persons. While the attitudes became more positive for some students, the overall impact was a negative one. The findings suggest that some revisions must be made in the manner in which we prepare nursing students.
