Why the study?
Does the subcoronary technique compared to root replacement influence left ventricular mass regression in patients undergoing the Ross procedure?
Population
646 patients from the German Ross Registry who underwent a Ross procedure for aortic valve disease.
Comparison
Ross procedure using subcoronary technique vs Ross procedure using root replacement technique
Design
Cohort
Follow-up
Mean 3.5+/-2.5 years (range 0.12 to 13.7 years)

LVM regression after Ross occurs early and independent of technique; leaves open whether targeting preoperative predictors yields fuller regression.
Does the subcoronary technique compared to root replacement influence left ventricular mass regression in patients undergoing the Ross procedure?
The Ross procedure leads to significant left ventricular mass regression within the first year regardless of surgical technique (subcoronary vs root replacement), but incomplete regression is predicted by high preoperative LVMI, smoking, and uncontrolled diastolic hypertension.
