Why the study?
The pathogenesis of depression remains unclear and responds poorly to treatment. Because interactions between insulin resistance and depression may exist, this study evaluated the relationship between depression and the triglyceride glucose index.
Is the triglyceride glucose (TyG) index associated with depression in middle-aged and elderly adults?
Population
198 middle-aged and elderly patients with depression and 189 healthy controls
Comparison
Depression vs healthy controls
Design
Cross-sectional study

Higher TyG may flag depression risk in middle-aged adults; leaves open causal role of IR and need for prospective trials.
Is the triglyceride glucose (TyG) index associated with depression in middle-aged and elderly adults?
The triglyceride glucose index, a marker of insulin resistance, is independently associated with depression in middle-aged and elderly adults.
