The 2018 ESC/ESH guidelines recommended combination therapy, especially single-pill combinations, for hypertension, but adherence to these recommendations after publication and during the COVID-19 pandemic in Poland needed assessment.

Patients filling at least 1 antihypertensive prescription in Poland (10 328 341 in 2019, 9 478 949 in 2020, 9 637 595 in 2021)

During the COVID-19 pandemic in Poland, the use of guideline-recommended combination antihypertensive therapies decreased, while beta-blocker use remained excessively high, highlighting suboptimal adherence to current hypertension treatment guidelines.
