Losartan may be preferred over atenolol in hypertensive LVH to regress carotid hypertrophy; extends evidence for ARB vascular benefits beyond BP lowering.

Losartan, but not atenolol, induces regression of carotid artery hypertrophy in patients with hypertension and LV hypertrophy, which may explain the lower incidence of strokes associated with losartan.
