One hundred eighty-five patients, ranging from 7 to 36 years of age, were refracted using cyclopentolate hydrochloride 1% in the right eye and a combination of cyclopentolate 1% and tropicamide 1% in the left eye. There were 76.76% with light irises and 23.24% with dark irises. The combination of both drugs was far superior to cyclopentolate 1% alone in producing effective cycloplegia in the deeply pigmented irises, but there was no significant difference in light irises.
