Why the study?
To investigate possible mechanisms of postprandial hypertriglyceridemia by analyzing serum lipid and apolipoprotein AI, B, CII, and CIII levels before and after a high-fat meal.
Are elevated levels of apolipoprotein CIII associated with an increased risk of postprandial hypertriglyceridemia following a high-fat meal in individuals with normal fasting triglycerides?
Population
143 volunteers with normal fasting triglyceride levels
Comparison
Postprandial normal triglyceride group vs postprandial hypertriglyceridemia group
Follow-up
6 hours

OFTT may identify occult postprandial hypertriglyceridemia in Chinese adults with fasting TG 1.0–1.7 mmol/L; leaves open optimal screening thresholds pending larger prospective studies.
Are elevated levels of apolipoprotein CIII associated with an increased risk of postprandial hypertriglyceridemia following a high-fat meal in individuals with normal fasting triglycerides?
Elevated fasting ApoCIII levels are independently associated with an increased risk of developing postprandial hypertriglyceridemia following a high-fat meal.
