Fontan yields high survival across anatomies; prolonged drainage association with protein-losing enteropathy and mortality is hypothesis-generating and requires prospective validation.
The Fontan procedure can be performed with low mortality risk regardless of ventricular anatomy, though prolonged aortic cross-clamp time and chest tube drainage >2 weeks are significant risk factors for late mortality and protein-losing enteropathy.
