Describes a novel preclinical canine model for inducing acute myocardial infarction and left ventricular failure with high survival rates using a gradually inflated balloon cuff.
A new method is described for producing acute myocardial infarction in dogs, by gradually inflating a balloon cuff which has been implanted around a coronary artery. The procedure results in myocardial damage severe enough to cause left ventricular failure, yet the survival rate is high.
