There are a growing number of studies focusing on lifestyle improvement among patients with psychotic illness. However, most of these studies have focused on outpatients. Studies on how to improve the lifestyle of inpatients with severe mental illness are still lacking. A review of the available literature on the establishment of wellness programs related to the quality of life of psychiatric patients was conducted using various databases including Google Scholar, Science Direct, and PubMed. Search strategies using keywords alongside inclusion and exclusion criteria were established. Inclusion criteria included English-language publications describing wellness programs in psychiatric patients related to quality of life and related characteristics published between 2013 and 2023. All eligible articles were reviewed to ensure that they met the selection criteria. Abstracts were screened to determine article eligibility. Full articles were then reviewed against the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Based on the review, 8086 articles were excluded because they did not specifically address the establishment of wellness programs related to the quality of life among psychiatric patients. 39 articles were finally selected for the scoping review. Most studies described elements such as nutrition, exercise, social activities, motivation level, and quality of life having significant associations with effective wellness programs among psychiatric patients. This study showed that certain elements are often incorporated in establishing effective wellness programs in patients with mental illness. Measures should be taken to determine other elements that might influence the effectiveness of wellness programs, especially pertaining to modifiable factors in patients.
