Objective To examine the expression macrophage inhibitory cytokine-1 (MIC-1) in gastric cancer tissue and its biological significance. Methods MIC-1 was detected by immunohistochemical method of strept audin-biotin complex in formalin-fixed specimens of 70 gastric cancer patients. Results The positive expression rates of MIC-1 were significantly higher in the tissues of advanced TNM staging、with infiltration into serous layer and with lymphnode metastasis than that of early TNM staging、without infiltration into serous layer and without lymphnode metastasis. The MIC-1 expression is much higher in recurrent gastric carcinoma than that in non-recurrent(P <0. 01). Conclusion MIC-1 nay be associated with the carcinogenesis、biological behaviors and prognosis of gastric cancer. This factor may be used as important biological markers in gastric cancer.
