This letter presents the design considerations and performances of a V-band antenna on a LTCC (low-temperature cofired ceramic) substrate for short-range communication systems. To lower the cost of the antenna, a low-frequency thick-film technology is used. The antenna consists of a set of double slots with surrounding short points. The introduction of short points is a means to counteract the lack of precision in the printing technique. The coupled-slot antenna has a gain of 4 dB in the main direction. The dimensions are 5 mm×4 mm on a single-side substrate of dielectric constant 7.1 and thickness 320 μm. The matching in this case is better than 10 dB. Another technique using slits around the slots is also proposed to center the antenna design around 62 GHz more efficiently.
