The hippocampus is the key structure of the limbic system of the brain, and neurogenesis in the hippocampus has attracted widespread attention for its ability to generate newborn neurons to replace aged or damaged neurons. Recently, neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and Huntington’s disease have been found to have significant changes in hippocampal neurogenesis. Both exogenous transplantation of neural stem cells and activation of endogenous neural stem cells can alleviate the pathological manifestations of neurodegenerative diseases to a certain extent.
