Systematic review examines climate change impacts on tourism events, highlighting sustainability gaps and solutions.
This study examines the reciprocal relationship between tourism and hospitality-related events and climate change. The Scopus-indexed articles have been reviewed to find the relationship. The study follows the PRISMA guidelines. Five themes emerged from the findings, including climate change impacts on tourism-related events, effects on travelers and the environment, event’s contribution to greenhouse gas emissions, sports-climate correlations, and interdisciplinary insights. Emissions from transport contribute more to event-related carbon emissions. Extreme weather increasingly threatens event viability and visitor safety. Mega-events serve as both environmental contributors and sustainability advocacy platforms. The study identifies research gaps and recommends virtual formats, renewable energy adoption, and climate risk assessments for sustainability.
