An investigation to determine the feasibility of developing a solid state battery, utilizing the electrolyte Ag/sub 3/Si, that could be operated at elevated temperatures was carried out. The system was found to exhibit a considerble amount of instability at the elevated temperatures. The degradation of the electrolyte by the cathode according to the reaction I/sub 2/(G)+Ag/sub 3/Si(S)=3 AgI(S)+S(S) is reported. 10 references.
