This case report highlights the rare association of placental chorangioma with fetal hydrops, cardiomegaly, and DIC in a newborn.
May warrant considering placental chorangioma in hydropic neonates with cardiomegaly and DIC; hypothesis-generating case leaves causal link and prevalence open.
Dic in a neonate in association with a chorangioma of the placenta is described. The infant was hydropic and hypoproteinemic, and the heart was enlarged. The results of coagulation studies are tabulated, the clinical course described, and the histological appearance of the tumor and postmortem findings in the infant recorded. Possible causes of the DIC, cardiomegaly, and hydrops are considered.
