Why the study?
Human noroviruses are responsible for most nonbacterial acute gastroenteritis, with GII.2, GII.4, and GII.17 recently arising as the most frequent genotypes worldwide.
Provides seven nearly complete genome sequences of prevalent human norovirus genotypes (GII.2, GII.4, GII.17) from Spain to aid in genomic surveillance.
These genomes add regional sequence data for prevalent norovirus strains; leaves open the need for larger surveillance to track evolution and outbreaks.
Human noroviruses are responsible for most nonbacterial acute gastroenteritis cases. The GII.2, GII.4, and GII.17 genotypes of human noroviruses have recently arisen as the most frequent genotypes found in humans worldwide. We report here seven nearly complete genomes of these genotypes from patients with acute gastroenteritis in Valencia, Spain.
