The orientational dependence of the magnetization on an in-plane magnetic field in an LPE garnet film of nominal composition Y2.5Gd0.5Fe4Ga1O12 has been measured in areas of ≧ 10 μm diameter using the magnetooptic Faraday effect. From a fit of theoretical calculations to the experimental data the anisotropy parameters K1 and Ku have been determined. In the temperature range from 278 to 318 °K K1 varies from −4.2 to −2.7 and Ku from +3.6 to +1.0, expressed in 102 erg/cm3.
