Randomized trial demonstrates selective alkylation of 1,1-dibromo-1-alkenes, highlighting novel synthetic pathways.
In this study, we describe a dual Ni/photoredox catalytic protocol to enable the selective sp 3 C-alkylation of 1,1dibromoalkenes. The method utilizes readily available dihydropyridyl (DHP) derivatives as radical precursors, which are generated under blue-light irradiation in the presence of an organic photosensitizer.Under these conditions, a wide variety of aryl and alkyl 1,1dibromoalkenes featuring different functional groups were easily coupled to rapidly and selectively install a C(sp 3 )-C(sp 2 ) bond. Finally, the synthetic utility of the resulting vinyl bromides was demonstrated by their efficient conversion into valuable building blocks.
