Lidocaine lacks direct SR calcium effects in guinea-pig myocytes; leaves open alternative antiarrhythmic mechanisms in human ventricular cells.
In guinea-pig ventricular cells, lidocaine does not directly affect calcium-induced calcium release from the sarcoplasmic reticulum or indirectly inhibit arrhythmic activity by reducing intracellular sodium.
