A new concept is proposed: the surface-mounted antenna component (SMAC). It is based on a three-dimensional radiating structure coupled to a feeding line. Examples are shown for broadband monopoles. Compared to the classical way of attaching such a structure, the manufacturing and trimming phases are lighter, while the overall performances are maintained at almost the same level. Matching values of better than 7 dB could be achieved through a bandwidth of 3 GHz. The radiation pattern is omnidirectional with 3 dB gain.
