Examines how inequalities affect trust and engagement in science, highlighting implications for communication strategies.
Despite substantial government investment in science engagement, participation remains uneven across South Africa. This study examines how inequalities shape public consumption of and trust in science and technology (S&T) information, and S&T engagement. Drawing on data from the 2022 South African Public Relationship with Science (SAPRS) survey, we explore patterns of inequality shaped by age, education, socio-economic, and geographic disparities, providing insights into strengthening science communication and engagement beyond formal education to promote lifelong S&T learning.
